Classroom 1-Miss Snyder
Week 3/1/10

Books That Fit the Bill:
    The Cat in the Hat
    Green Eggs & Ham
    Horton Hears a Who
    The Foot Book
    Dr. Suess's ABC

Some notes from Miss Snyder:
    This week we will celebrate Dr. Suess's birthday.  We will focus on a few of his books:
    The Cat in the Hat-Home rules, cleaning room
    Green Eggs & Ham-Animals that lay eggs, green foods, and of course we will make "Green Eggs & Ham"
    Horton Hears a Who-Discuss the value of people regardless of their differences
    The Foot Book-We will be tracing our feet, comparing sizes and we will sort our shoes into categories
    Dr. Suess's ABC-A day with our alphabet
    We spent last week learning about opposites.  The children grasped the concept and flew with it.  They spent the week coming up with opposites as we moved through our day.  Great way to pass time, give them a word, ask them the opposite.  Remember to let your child take a turn giving you a word.

Classroom 2-Miss Pearson

Books That Fit the Bill:
    The Cat in the Hat-Dr Suess

Some notes from Miss Pearson:
    This week, Dr. Suess and his birthday!
    We will be reading all kinds of Dr. Suess books and talking about rhyming words.  We will also be making our own Cat in the Hat with our feet! 

Events:
    Fri-Show & Tell-Please bring in any Dr. Suess books or toys.
    Remeber parent-teacher conferences scheduled Wednesday of this week. 
    Student teachers from HGTC will be spending next week with us.

    Alexia-She has shown interest in finding print in her environment and in reading!
Classroom 5-Miss Dutton
Week 3/1/10

Books That We Read:
    Miss Moo Goes to the Zoo-Kelly Graves
    What's Happening at the Zoo-Heather Amery

Some notes from Miss Dutton:
    This month we have decided to learn about the zoo and all the animals we can find there.  Where all the animals come from to get to be in the zoo and how the zookeepers take care of all the animals.
    You will see different animals in all of our centers.  Counting monkeys to matching animal names.  There are so many different aspects of the zoo that we will learn about.  Not just the animals, but what it takes to take care of them.
    We also will be talking about St. Patrick and why we have St. Patrick's Day.  Who he was and what he did to become a saint.  Of course we will be reading about Leprechauns, and Good Luck Shamrocks.  

Events:
    Friday-Show & Tell-Pizza Day-Please bring items in a labeled bag
    Next week we will be having the Horry-Georgetown students working with our class.  There will be two to three students in each classroom.  We should have a great time.  They will be bringing in their own projects to do with the classroom.

Some notes from Miss Lozano:
    Math:  This month we are continuing to work with money.  Recognizing and understanding the concept of how it applies to society.  Introducing time.  
    Continue to work on handwriting and using our senses to write stories.
    Science:  Our five senses.  Discussing what senses we use how, and when, and applying it to being aware of our bodies and our environment.  
    Life Skill of the Week:  Common sense-To think it through.  

Events:
    Two field trips at the end of the month
    Dr. Suess Birthday-Green Eggs & Ham

Horray for:
    Abby-She is a conscientious student and enjoys reading.  She writes wonderful stories and is the class math wiz!

Misc:
    Just a reminder:  Read, READ, READ!!!!!!

Some notes from Miss Jenks:
    Our class has been working on manners.  We are also working on other life skills such as:  walking in a line, how to interrupt someone.
    We will also be doing letter K k.-kites, kangaroos, and kittens.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday. 

Hooray for:
    Spring and warm sunny days.  We love our new spring work.
